Mira Costa’s online gradebook system, Powerschool, has been down multiple times between the weeks of Jan. 25 and Feb. 1, making it unavailable for teachers to input grades during the first half of finals and throughout the period of finalizing semester grades.
According to Mira Costa Vice Principal Dr. Karina Gerger, Powerschool was inaccessible during various five minute increments on Jan. 26, 27 and 28. The reason for the issue is unknown.
“Teachers were grading exams at this time and trying to input the student’s scores. It is disappointing for the students when I was unable to stay on top of final grades because Powerschool wasn’t working,” Modern World History teacher Gregory Kloes said.
In addition to the few issues with Powerschool during finals week, on Feb. 1, during first period, an announcement was made over the speaker system asking students to check Powerschool to ensure that there had been no schedule mistakes for the second semester.
“Powerschool tends to encounter short issues when so many people go on it at once,” Gerger said. “We try to send out emails letting teachers know when the site becomes accessible again so that they can get back on it.”
