Manhattan Beach Middle School Principal Kim Linz received a report on Saturday morning that the mural wall behind the amphitheatre at MBMS was vandalized with graffiti.
The school filed a police report with the Manhattan Beach Police Department and the situation is currently being investigated by Officer Garcia, the MBMS resource officer. Since the mural is located in the central part of campus, there were cameras on scene and the footage is being looked into for possible evidence.
“I think it is unfortunate that someone would disrespect the students and community of MBMS in this way,” Linz said. “While this may seem like a small event to the people who did this, it has been a costly fix to the school both in money and in time. I am hopeful we will not see another event like this disrupt the learning at MBMS.”
The school worked to restore the wave mural, but the muralist was unavailable until Monday morning, after students arrived at school. MBMS suggested that parents talk to their children before arriving at school because it could be upsetting to the students.
“I think whoever vandalized the school may have been doing it as an act against the new principal Ms. Linz,” Eighth grader Ava Gallien said. “However, it was wrong and there are different ways to deal with the new principal and the new school policies.”
