To kick off the holiday season, “Candy Cane Lane” was released on Dec 1. Directed by Reggie Hudlin, the film spreads Christmas joy through its festive soundtrack, caroling, and family-friendly humor.
The movie explores heartfelt themes through the main character Chris Carver, played by Eddie Murphy, as he attempts to win his neighborhood’s annual Christmas home decoration contest. Carver makes a deal with a mischievous elf named Pepper, played by Jillian Bell, in hopes of increasing his chances of winning. The deal ultimately backfires and Chris and his wife Carol, played by Tracee Ellis Ross, and their three children must break Pepper’s spell in order to save Christmas.
“Candy Cane Lane” is a must-watch for this holiday season, with its cozy atmosphere and classic storyline. Murphy perfectly depicts a hilarious father figure, while still representing the values and importance
of family during the holidays. Most of the cringe-worthy moments are overshadowed by the meaningful overall message of the film that warms the hearts of audiences and encourages viewers to cherish quality time with family.

“Candy Cane Lane” attracts Southern California residents as it takes place in El Segundo, inspired by the town’s annual “Candy Cane Lane” Christmas decorating contest on East Acacia Avenue, during the holiday season. The film puts El Segundo on the map and documents how the community unites to continue this beautiful tradition.
While the film is not meant for dissection by serious film critics, it perfectly captures corny moments between family members. The film reminds viewers of the importance of celebrating the true meaning behind Christmas.
The holiday adventure, “Candy Cane Lane,” is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
