On Oct. 14, Mira Costa cross country ran in the first Bay League Meet of the season in Palos Verdes. The Mustangs had a strong meet with the boys varsity team placing first with 31 points, and the girls varsity pacing second with 52 points.
“I think the team excelled in this meet, and I am so proud of all of us for running strong races,” sophomore Sophia Parsley said. “The team dynamic is good, which makes competing in these meets more fun for everybody.”
Varsity boys dominated in its division, taking first place with the top three finishers being seniors Seamus O’Meara and Max Levin and junior Andrew Martin. Boys varsity placed 12 points ahead of the second place team, Redondo Union High School.
“The best part of the race is how we expected to win, but we still ran smart,” Levin said. “The team did pretty [well] considering we had so many guys from all teams [placing well].”
Girls varsity, with 52 points, was six points behind the first place team, Palos Verdes. They had high-placing individual races with senior Ella Parsley leading the team and finishing second in her division.
“It was fun to be competing again,” Sophia Parsley said. “The best part of the race was the feeling of reaching the top of a really big hill called Agony because once you get to the top of it, it’s mostly downhill.”
