Girls lacrosse had a decisive victory over Peninsula in Palos Verdes on Wednesday, setting the tone for the game early on. The Mustangs, scoring within the first 12 seconds, were met by Peninsula responding with a quick goal of their own. From there, Costa took control, maintaining both offensive and defensive for the rest of the game.

The Mustangs continued to build their lead, ultimately securing a commanding 24-6 win. Despite the defiant win, Peninsula played hard throughout the entire match. According to Brown, Costa’s success was driven by strong individual performances across the field, with several players stand-outs.

“Kate Donnelley, Peyton Malone, and Lizzie Witherell all played well,” said Costa sophomore and varsity player Mia Brown. “They were all over the field and stepped up into the positions we needed them in.”

The Mustangs’ ability to adapt helped them take control of the game. Brown highlights that it was the Mustangs’ teamwork and resilience that factored into their success. Their ability to stay connected on the field and support each other proved to be a key advantage.

“Heading into the game, we were all pretty confident in our abilities and knew we would come out on top if we worked together and worked hard,” said Brown. “We worked as a team and lifted each other up. And while there were minor areas for improvement, there were small things here and there, but nothing major.”

With this strong win under their belt, the Mustangs are eager to continue their momentum and push for Bay League title. Costa is finishing off the week with a home game today against Edison High and an away match against Torrey Pines on Saturday.

“I definitely think we have a strong chance to win Bay League,” says Brown. “As a team we are talented enough and have all the skills.”
