The Weeknd’s newest album, “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” released on Jan. 31, focuses on self acceptance and redemption, and has so far met the high expectations of fans.
Released through XO and Republic Records, “Hurry up Tomorrow” is the sixth studio album The Weeknd has dropped, and possibly the final album under his studio name. Due to the popularity of his R&B music, especially after the release of his innovative 2020 album “After Hours,” his expansive fan base has been looking forward to this album for a while.
The album features iconic artists, including Lana Del Rey, Giorgio Moroder, Playboi Carti, Future, Travis Scott, Florence + the Machine, Anitta, and Justice. Seven of the album’s 22 tracks feature other artists, with only 15 solo songs, allowing for The Weeknd’s voice to shine in different styles.
The Weeknd tells an important story that the listeners are able to connect with. He uses various instruments, including the synthesizer, guitar, drums, keyboards, bass, strings, and a number of others to create emotional music paired with his raw and vulnerable vocals.
When The Weeknd announced this to be his last album under his studio name, he said that “Hurry Up Tomorrow” will connect together his last two albums, “After Hours,” and “Dawn FM.” Listeners can clearly hear how the music represents a story, with the end of the first track blending into the start of the second track, and with the whole album containing farewell messages to his fans and his musical career.
The album ends with the title track, “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” which features peaceful and gentle melodies to express The Weeknd’s bittersweet feelings regarding the end of his career. This album is more than a collection great songs, it is a genuinely transformative experience. The success of this album leaves fans hoping The Weeknd will continue music under his actual name, Abel Tesfaye.
