Costa Track & Field triumphed in their first meet on Feb. 22, against LB Millikan and West Torrance.

In the Men’s Varsity 100 Meter, sophomore AJ McBean took first, and his junior teammate Luke Leonard followed close behind, both setting their own personal records. In the Varsity Women and Men 200 Meter run, junior Leoni Biegert placed first, with her sophomore teammate Isabella Verela placing third for Costa. Leonard placed first in the men’s division, followed by junior Caden Enright and McBean, placing third and fourth. 

“I’m really excited for this season,” Sophomore Aidyn Bajer said. “So far it’s been really fun with all of my teammates.”

In Men’s Meter Varsity 110m Hurdles, 39”. Senior Mac Lamkin and sophomore Mateo Loo placed the highest, beating the other schools tremendously. The Women’s Varsity 100 meter Hurdles, 33” was also a huge success for Costa, senior Ava Crowley placed first and senior Marin Goodfriend placed second.

“I think this meet went very well for our first of this season,” freshman Alexis Cusato said. “I’m excited to see what this team will bring in the upcoming events of our season.”

Next was the Men’s 4×400  Meter Varsity Relay, which finished with Loo, Leonard, Enright, and Lamkin in first place. 

“This year will be a great year for track with all the new freshmen and incoming soccer players,” sophomore Keeley Maloney said. “I’m really looking forward to our future meets.”

Finally, in the Women’s Varsity High Jump, Ava Schauwecker, senior Remy Chen, and senior Stella Traylor all placed top 3. In the Women’s Varsity Long Jump, Marin Goodfriend placed top of the event, followed by Chen.

“We are all looking forward to our upcoming meets,” said Cusato. “We can’t wait to build of of this initial  success and also get back to practice to work on all of our mistakes as a team and individually.”
