Team Costa achieves goals

New security measures lack enforcement

Following Costa’s two-day closure spurred by threats posted on Yik Yak, a social media application, drastic measures were taken to increase the level of security on campus. The new and improved safety measures enforced the inspection of students backpacks before impending onto campus and on regulations put on students leaving the campus, which created a safer environment. However, now these measures are executed less rigorously, which is putting students and staff in danger.

CIF allows for better competition

The California Interscholastic Federation is an annual opportunity for high school varsity sports teams to compete with fellow top performing athletes. Coaches alter their varsity teams when the CIF season begins. The rearrangement of varsity teams for CIF season is clearly ethical and fair because the alterations that are meant to provide junior varsity players with varsity training, ensuring the team has the best chance of winning, as well as creating equal opportunities for all student athletes.

Student petitions prove ineffective

As a result of the incident with former French teacher Timothy Hirsh and the former policy that did not allow 18-year-old students to leave campus during second office hours, several students chose to create petitions to voice their concerns.
