The Mira Costa Girls Volleyball Team traveled to Santa Barbara High School on Thursday, Sept. 9 to play in the annual Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions, defeating San Marcos in the finals to take first place overall in the tournament. Senior members of the National Charity League’s Manhattan-Hermosa chapter painted storm drains along the Manhattan Beach strand over the summer as part of their senior project. The miniature paintings feature various ocean life and the county of Los Angeles’ “No Dumping” logo. They serve as a reminder of the effects that pollution has on the ocean and to discourage people from littering into these drains. […]
Costa’s administration hired English teacher Taylor DiBernardo from Manhattan Beach Middle School to teach English, starting at the beginning of this school year. A committee of Costa teachers and administrators selected DiBernardo for the position after interviewing a pool of candidates. DiBernardo started at the beginning of this school year teaching College Preparatory English 9 and 10.

After a difficult loss to West Torrance Warriors last season, the Mustangs came back resilient, winning the battle against the Warriors, 41–14. Costa went up against the Warriors at Waller Stadium at 7 p.m. on Sept. 20. The Mustang offense worked in sync again, as a string of pass plays and a powerful run game lead Costa to their third straight victory. […]
