Mira Costa Model United Nations members competed at the North American Invitational Model United Nations conference, hosted by Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., from Feb. 16-19.
Costa juniors Hannah James, Taylor Lewis, Morgan Livingston and seniors Austin Ahn, Trent Fuji, Jordyn Irwin, and Zach Kay received gavel awards.
“Costa represented the West Coast as always and even though some people didn’t get the awards they wanted, Model UN means so much more than that,” junior Taylor Lewis said. “Learning about all of the different conflicts in the world, in my case media rights in the developing international community, completely broadens perspectives and lets us learn about world issues.”
Costa’s Model United Nations Team received the Outstanding Large Delegation award, placing second to Horace Mann School of New York.
“I thought we were well prepared, and performed our best as the national team we are,” MUN Co-Advisor Bob Timberlake said. “However, when the dust settled, we were beat by a hair. We are disappointed, but not devastated.”
