Mira Costa girls Varsity volleyball played against Laguna Beach High School at home in a non-league match on Wednesday, Oct. 3. Coming from a victory in their first Bay League game, Costa won the match with a final score of 3-2.
Laguna Beach gained a lot of momentum in the first game, which led to Costa slipping back and giving away the first game. Costa took control of the second game offensively with a tight score of 25-23.
“Laguna came out with a lot of energy and got into a rhythm in the first game,” sophomore Skylar Caputo said. “We regained our focus and took over the second game though.”
Senior Grayce Campbell helped with a Costa comeback in the fifth game with a total of 13 kills along with senior Lexi Millington who had 14 kills. Sophomore Jerephina Leilua had 6 kills which finished off the fifth game for Costa.
“The fifth game is all about momentum, so every ball needed to stay up in order to keep the game going,” Caputo said “Since it is a shorter game the momentum can also change very quickly.”
Costa will play their next match against West Torrance on the road on Thursday, Oct. 4. The Mustangs’ overall record is now 8-6 as they continue onto their second regular season match.
