The Manhattan Beach Unified School District released Mira Costa’s 2012 Academic Performance Index score of 913 on Oct. 12, confirming a two-point increase from last year’s score.

API scores are generated for every public school based on students’ performances on the California Standardized Testing and Reporting Exams. With a score of 913, Mira Costa surpassed the state recommendation of 800.

“When choosing a high school, API was definitely a factor for me,” senior Meghan Mahoney said. “The fact that Costa has such a high API really helps when colleges look at applications.”

Costa scored higher than other South Bay schools including Redondo Union High School and Peninsula High School.

“I’m excited we are able to continue the upward trend of our API score, especially after a 12-point increase from 2010 to 2011,” Mira Costa Principal Dr. Ben Dale said.
