Early mistakes cost Mira Costa boys water polo a victory

The Mustangs were surprised with a physical battle from Agoura on Tuesday, September 14. Agoura caught Mira Costa off-guard, resulting in a 9-7 loss to Agoura at home.
The Mira Costa Mustangs (1-1) did not expect Agoura’s  hustle on both sides of the ball. Some rather costly Mira Costa errors on offense and defense  resulted in Agoura scores. In addition, the Agoura defense proved difficult to break.
Despite these factors, the Mustangs fought back hard in the second half after being down four goals. The Mustangs mounted a comeback in the 4th period with momentum, but Agoura caught a fast break off of a shot that hit its own cross-bar and put the game out of reach.
The Mustangs added a late goal with about a minute to play to put the score at 9-7, but it was a classic story of too little, too late. Top performers senior Jake Miller and junior Ryan Koverman had two goals each. Seniors Joe Siltanen and Grant Wooldridge, as well as junior Justin Pratt, also scored.
Mira Costa’s next match will be at Laguna Beach on Sept. 21 where they will try to improve their record.
