On Friday night Mira Costa girls basketball lost on the road to Redondo Union, 40-35, making their record 11-8 overall and 0-2 in Bay League play.
Senior guard Camille Mills led the team with 14 points. Freshman forward Allie Navarette totaled 9 points and 4 rebounds while junior guard Haley Tojo had 6 points, and Michelle Lanterman grabbed 5 rebounds.
“I felt like we played with a lot of heart,” senior forward Alison Bartak said. “Unfortunately, we were not able to pull it off in the end.”
The Mustangs struggled offensively at the start trailing 9-5 after one quarter. The second quarter was fast paced and the halftime score was 21-17, Redondo. Costa dominated the third quarter as the score was 25-24, Costa. Redondo rallied in the fourth quarter, as the final score ended at 40-35, Redondo.
“I think we played better against Redondo,” coach John Lapham said. “However, we didn’t shoot the ball well, making only 26% of our field goal attempts and 50% of our free throws. We still need to get better at rebounding.”
Mira Costa plays again Tuesday night at 6:00 on the road against Leuzinger.
