The Mira Costa boys golf team continued its undefeated season on Tuesday with a win over Chadwick High School, 173-229, at Chester Washington.
Although the wind provided for difficult playing conditions at the course, Costa was able to maintain its focus and accuracy to win.
“The team was able to hit plenty of greens, even though it was very windy,” senior captain Bryce Holmes said.
Sophomore Nick Harry led the team with a one-under score of 33. After a birdie on the fifth hole, Harry was able to maintain a solid performance throughout all nine holes.
“Shooting one under par was a solid score for me, considering the tough conditions,” Harry said.
Junior captain CJ Coleman believes that Tuesday’s match was the team’s best of the season. Coleman and senior JJ Standberry shot even par.
“We came together and shot solid scores,” Coleman said. “Everyone contributed to this win, which was great.”
Holmes and seniors Kyle Cohen and James Houston were able to shoot a 37, three over par.
“I hit the ball pretty well but wasn’t able to make many putts,” Holmes said. “I struggled on the last hole, but otherwise it was a decent round.”
With only three games left in Bay League, the Mustangs hope to continue their undefeated streak into CIF.
“Our team played great,” Standberry said. “It was simply another indication to prove to everyone that we are ready for CIF.”
The boys played Chadwick again yesterday at the Round Hill Country Club; however, the results were unavailable due to the time of publication.
“Our short term goal is finishing off the season undefeated,” Harry said. “If we can accomplish that, we all believe we will have a great shot at winning the CIF championship this year.”
