The Mira Costa College and Career Center will hold the annual College Knowledge Night on Monday in the auditorium to educate students and parents on the college application and preparation process.
College and Career counselors Judy Park and Caryn Ramirez will give presentations detailing general college information beginning at 7 p.m., before students and parents depart for individual workshops led by university officials.
“We are going to be covering different things seniors need to be on the lookout for, such as signing up for college visits, college application time lines, testing information and letters of recommendation,” Ramirez said. “There are many great colleges to apply to, and one way to start the process is through attending these events that are free and offered on campus.”
Five or six guest speakers from different universities across the country, such as Princeton, University of California Los Angeles and University of Southern California, will also present information about their respective colleges. They will share advice about how to get into their school and any college in general.
“I hope this gives me more insight about college and helps me choose the college that suits me best,” senior Jessie Leigh said.
Based on each attendees’ personal questions and interests, students can choose to participate in two out of seven workshops offered throughout the night: University of California admission, private college admission, California State University admission, out of state admission, college life and dorm living, standardized testing and college-bound student athletes.
“Seniors are strongly encouraged to come,” Ramirez said. “We’d like to see students of all grade levels because it’s never too early to start preparing for college.”
