Mira Costa’s People Attending Complete Equality students are hosting an assembly concerning distracted driving on Thursday December 11.
according to PACE president Gillian Searer, PACE decided to host this assembly because of the large danger they believe the issue poses to the community. According to PACE advisor Dr. Rocky Wilson, this assembly will inform students the consequences of multitasking while driving.
“It is important for a student to know they are putting their life in risk when they go on the road.” Wilson said.
The assembly will feature a guest speaker, Zoe Schuler, who is an education outreach coordinator from Impact Teen Drivers. She will speak to about the importance of being safe on the road. PACE encourages Schuler to make her talk entertaining while still capitalizing upon the general message.
“I always see deaths in newspapers from drivers trying to drive and do something else at the same time,” PACE member Alison DeRosa. “They putting their life and others in danger.”
Schuler will inform the students about how families and others are impacted when a loved one is lost due to distracted driving.
“It will be a wake up call to the students who try to multitask on the regular basis,” said Searer. “Hopefully they will know the consequences of their actions from now on.”
