The Measure BB construction project at Mira Costa, which began in December 2011, is set to finish at the end of March.

The final phase of Measure BB began early in the summer of 2014. Phase III includes building a new quad in the middle of campus and remodeling and building new band, drama and art rooms. The plan also includes creating a new multi-purpose room across from the auditorium.

“This phase has been successful, and all of the projects proposed in the bond election have been completed for the original cost proposed and is on schedule,” Manhattan Beach Unified School District Board President Bill Fournell said.

Currently, Bernards Brothers Incorporations is finishing the new senior quad and the new multi-purpose room. According to Fournell, the board hopes to finish the quad and multi-purpose room around the end of March.

“The improved facilities will enhance and support the already excellent programs at Mira Costa with greater comfort and added space for teachers and students to teach and learn along with dedicated and specialized facilities to support science and the arts,” Fournell said.

According to Fournell, the new quad will provide a central open space on campus for students that was not on the old campus.

“The construction progress has been excellent, and once the quad opens up, it will be nice to be able to move around freely again,” Costa Principal Dr. Ben Dale said.
