The Mira Costa Mustangs took on their Bay League rivals, the Redondo Seahawks, this past Tuesday at Costa’s Fisher Gymnasium. Both teams have impressed this season, the Mustangs with a 15-5 record and the Seahawks at 16-4.
One half of the bleachers were filled with Costa’s green and gold, the other half a sea of a Redondo bright red. Despite historically close games, the Seahawks pulled away early, taking advantage of Costa’s defensive lapses. Redondo capitalized on almost every error Costa made on defense, building a quick and ultimately insurmountable lead. The Mustangs rebound game suffered against Redondo’s vertically superior starting five. Costa never had a lead in the game, and the Mustangs fell to 15-6 after their 68-41 loss.
Costa is now second in Bay League at 3-2, but have work to do in order to catch up to Redondo’s 5-0 record. With four games remaining, the Mustangs will close out the season at Redondo in what could very likely be a battle for a Bay League title.
