After hours of practice to perfect pieces, Mira Costa High School Bands attended a festival in which they got excellent award for concert band, excellent plus award for symphonic and a unanimous superior award for wind ensemble.
The bands went Whittier High School for the festival. Wind ensemble played “In Wartime” and “Folk Dances”, Symphonic played “Putza” and “From Every Horizon” and Concert band played “Slavonic Dance” and “At the Strongholds of En Gedi.”
“We have been practicing these pieces for a few months and we were ready to play it for the judges at the festival,” Costa band director Joel Carlson said.
The panel of judges at the festival rated their performance based on two levels: the performance and sight reading. After they scored each piece, they gave each section of the band feedback on the performance.
“It was a great opportunity to show what we have been working on to the judges,” said sophomore Aiden Anderson said. “The festival has made me better at playing percussion songs.”
