Coachella has evidently created very high standards for the caliber of music festivals throughout California. From the information released thus far, it looks like this year’s Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival will exceed Coachella’s pre-determined expectations.
The lineup’s wide range of musical performers, along with the expected variety of food and art installations, makes this year’s Outside Lands look extremely promising.
Outside Lands is an annual music festival that takes place in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. It was first held in August 2008 when Radiohead, Tom Petty and Jack Johnson headlined the festival. Outside Lands is known for being an indie and alternative festival with numerous unique art installations spread throughout.
The lineup for this year’s festival features major headliners, including Elton John, Mumford & Sons and Sam Smith. Some of the other featured performers include G-Eazy, Milky Chance and George Ezra.
The prospective art installations for this year are the Outsider Art showcase, the live painting of a mural and an artsy, comedic show called Dr. Flotsam’s Hell Brew Revue.
One highlight of this year’s Outside Lands Festival is the variety of musical groups and performers in its lineup. There is truly a performer for every type of music lover, from fans of classic pop to those of rap and indie alternative, as this one festival includes performances from artists such as Billy Idol, Kendrick Lamar and Glass Animals.
This diversity in performances is bound to create an atmosphere in which festival goers have the opportunity to listen to their favorite artists while also exploring new genres of music.
Not only is there a wide range of artistic styles that will be performing at Outside Lands, but the lineup is the ideal blend of well-known headliners and intriguing but lesser-known performers. This blend allows for the possibility of hyped-up performances, such as those of Tame Impala and The Black Keys, as well as more experimental performances, such as those of Ryn Weaver and Shakey Graves.
Additionally, if the art installations continue with the trend of previous years and the festival ends up featuring the prospective displays, these installations will provide another source of original entertainment for festival attendees.
Due to the wide variety of musical performers and art installations at Outside Lands this year, the festival seems as though it will be a success.
This year, Outside Lands Music Festival takes place from Aug. 7 – 9. Three-day passes are sold out, but one-day tickets are still on sale for $135.
