Mira Costa Varsity swimmers Ed Jeon and Katie Barnhill earned automatic bids into CIF for placing 1st in their respective events on Tuesday at Redondo High School. Seven other Mustangs also qualified for consolations and will advance to the Bay League Prelim Finals if automatic bids go unfilled.
Senior Jeon finished the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:02.40, winning the event in a 1.4 second window. Also, Sophomore Katie Barnhill lead the girls in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.68.
“I think we did a good job coming together and supporting one another and pulled through in our races,” Barnhill said. “It was really fun and a very positive atmosphere to it. I had a good day and secured a place in the finals.”
The Bay League Preliminaries will continue Friday at Redondo for the Bay league finals. The girls varsity swim team finished the season 3-5 and 1-2 in Bay league, while the boys finished 3-4-1 and 2-0-1 in Bay league.
“I am looking forward to competing this Friday and see what all my hard work will come to in the end,” Barnhill said. “All I can do is hope for the best.”
