MBX will begin a three-week renovation project on Monday of Waller Stadium.
According to MBX President Gary Wayland, MBX hopes to create a more resilient track that will last a longer period of time.
“The existing track has been in use for seven years, and it is showing signs of wearing,” Wayland said. “A new, state-of-the-art track can improve performances, reduce injury and encourage more participation in athletics.”
The project budget is estimated to be $240,000. This cost is being paid by donations from an anonymous corporate donor and MBX savings.
“A substantial part of the cost was provided by the anonymous donation,” Wayland said. “We chose to renovate the track as it benefits every student at Costa as well as many members of our community.”
The track will be closed for the entire estimated three-week construction period, and the field will be closed periodically. The project is anticipated to be completed by the beginning of June.
“The season is at a close for the track and field team, all of our spring sports that use our track or field for competition are completed, so this is the best time to further enhance Waller Stadium and our program,” track coach Moe Russell said.
