After a first-round win against Dos Pueblos, the Mira Costa Mustangs hosted the Servite Friars in the second round of CIF. The Mustangs barely escaped Servite with a 25-20 win in the first set, but roared back by completing a sweep of the Friars, winning the next two sets 25-18 and 25-13.
Juniors Roy McFarland and Jackson Wedbush led the offensive onslaught, finding every opportunity to exploit holes in Servite’s defense. Any momentum the Friars gained was immediately stopped by the senior defensive tandem of Chris Caskey’s and Blake Markland’s constant blocks.
The Mustangs will advance to the quarterfinals to play Newbury on May 16.
