The Manhattan Beach Fire Department came to Mira Costa yesterday at 4 p.m. to put out a fire in a dumpster located in the Math and Science building.
Junior Hannah Watkins saw the fire and pulled the fire alarm while sophomore Duke Mahr and senior Andrew Karnes retrieved a fire extinguisher in attempt to extinguish it. The Fire Department will continue their investigation on the source of the fire and notify Costa administration as progress is made.
“When I saw the fire, it was really hot and melted the paint on the outside of the metal dumpster,” Mira Costa science lab assistant Karen Cunningham said. “When the fire department arrived, they asked me questions and I told them that the chemistry students used nonflammable chemicals to do a lab.”
