In the second round of California Interscholastic Federation Playoffs, badminton took on Yorba Linda at the Manhattan Beach Badminton Club on May 5, losing 13-8.

The girls doubles and singles teams won eight out of their eight games; the boys singles and doubles teams won none of their eight games, and mixed doubles won none of their five games. Despite strong efforts from juniors Yoshi Cohn and Shirleen Chen, the Mustangs were ultimately defeated.

“I tried my best to play good badminton at this high level of play,” Chen said. “We fell short and didn’t accomplish what needed to be done.”

The loss put an end to the Mustang’ season with an overall record of 4-4.

“As a team, I think we could have improved in the area of team spirit,” sophomore boys singles and mixed doubles player Sam Schwartz said. “Hopefully, we will be able to become more of a family next year because with that kind of support comes success.”
