1…2…3 BREAK(y)! This year, Mira Costa juniors Zane Crandall and Nash Hale co-created an Instagram account that comically commentates on the breakfast burritos made at Amigos Tacos in Manhattan Beach.

Crandall and Hale, the self-proclaimed “godfathers,” work together to write reviews on the restaurant’s salsas, give tips to customers on what to do when ordering and provide commentary on breakfast burritos. They even hold competitions through Daily Breaky in which they give away a free burritos to a winning Instagram follower.

“The godfathers are very dedicated to this account. In fact, we spend more time spitballing ideas for pictures and captions than working on school work,” Crandall said. “We really give the followers what they want: comedic relief on a simple topic on supply and demand. Give the people what they need.”

The Daily Breaky account was created to honor the godfathers’ love of Amigos breakfast burritos. According to Hale, they were inspired to begin the account to spread their burrito wisdom.

“We, the two godfathers, have always loved breakys,” Hale said. “One day we realized we ate at Amigos so much and knew so much about the breakys that it seemed unfair not to share our knowledge.”

The boys’ extensive knowledge on the breakfast burritos, their advertisement of Amigos and their dedication to the account has led them to work in association with Amigos Tacos. Now they enjoy the benefits of discounted burritos.

“Our partnership is run through our media outlet of communications and involves the exchange of services between the two corporations,” said Hale. “We get 50% off for life on everything there, and they have a poster up for us in return for our help.”

Through the last two months of the account, Daily Breaky has earned 1,826 followers, a vast majority of which are Costa students. To gain more followers, Crandall and Hale created signs that they placed around the Costa campus.

“We try to keep our corporation local because that’s where most of our fans spur from,” said Crandall.

Future plans for the account are yet undecided. The main goal for Hale and Crandall is to keep the account running smoothly and growing as much as possible. According to Hale, they hope for more success in the future, but as of now, they have nothing planned.

“We plan to stay true to the goals we set in the first place,” Crandall said.
