The Mira Costa boys cross country team had its first meet of the year yesterday in the form of a two mile mini meet against Saugus, Palos Verdes and Serrano high schools at Palos Verdes, and Costa won.
The boys cross country’s top finishers were junior Caleb Llorin in first, senior Ty Garret in second, junior and Michael Yaskowitz in third. Other top finishers included senior Ethan Williams and junior Scott Healy. It was a two mile race, and Caleb and Ty’s finish time was 10:30, which is a 5:15/mile pace.
“It was a great start to the season and a testament to the work we have done over the summer, and hopefully our varsity team can make it to state this year,” Healy said.
According to Healy, Costa’s brilliant start to the season will put it in a position to dominate this year. Their second meet of the year will be next Friday at 2 p.m. in Ventura for the Seaside Ventura Invitational.
“We were able to prove that our varsity team is better than Palos Verdes’s varsity team, a team that won third place in the state division 3 last year and is ranked 12th in the boys teams from all divisions by prepcaltrack,” junior Austin Lamb said. “Of course this early in the season though, anything can happen.”
