The movie “Dragon Blade” contains very graphic scenes, making the film a nail biting thriller. Comedy is mixed into bloody battle scenes, which made the film unique because mixing comedy and action is unusual.
The action adventure film “Dragon Blade,” directed by Daniel Lee follows a group of people called the Silk Road Protection Squad who help bring peace to the Silk Road. Based in China, Huo An, played by Jackie Chan, is the leader of this group and fights to bring peace on the Silk Road.
The members of the Silk Road Protection Squad are forced by the Chinese government to work on construction at Geese Gate, a destroyed fortress. Shortly after their arrival at Geese Gate, it is invaded by Romans. Huo An fights their leader, wins, and convinces him not to harm the city or inhabitants.
Jackie Chan makes martial arts look easy but very realistic. Being the Captain of the Silk Road Protection Squad is a crowning role for Chan aka Huo An because he makes a strong leader who’s goal is to keep peace on the Silk Road.
Director Daniel Lee combines two unlikely genres comedy and action into the same movie. Lee mixes comedy into the gory battle scenes. Even though the actors reactions during the fighting scenes are funny it takes away the bigger message that people died to protect there country and what they believed in.
The story takes place during 48 BC in China and the landscape and backdrop in the movie seems extremely unrealistic. The low quality green screen makes the movie look cheap. The background shown is mostly all desert with some mountains. This makes the scenery look boring and bad. The movie makes China look like a boring area with only desert surrounding the cities.
The cast for the movie “Dragon Blade” has a great mixture of famous Hollywood actors including actors Jackie Chan and John Cusack. These two actors deliver their roles perfectly by showing true leadership. Chan and Cusack both play strong leaders because they show motivation and leadership to their armies. Chan’s character is the leader of the Silk Road Protection Squad and Cusack’s character is the leader of the Romans, a leader must be strong, smart and be able to lead their people into victory.
Overall the movie “Dragon Blade” is an eventful action packed movie from start to finish. The Silk Road Protection Squad lead by Huo An There is never a dull moment throughout the movie, because its fascinating plot keeps the viewer on the edge of their seat.
The film is available On Demand and in some small theaters, including the Laemmle’s Playhouse 7. The movie is rated R.
