Mira Costa’s girls golf team placed second in the 16th-annual Knabe Cup, scoring 299, and lost by one point to Diamond Bar High School on Wednesday at the Lakewood Country Club golf course.
Thirty-six high school teams, comprised of four players per team, competed in the tournament. Costa’s team consisted of juniors Andrea Lee and Ashley Kim, and seniors Marni Murez and Veronica Chen.
“We struggled in the beginning of the round, but in the end, all of us pulled it together and came back with birdies to finish out our round,” Kim said.
Costa’s next game is a Bay League game against Palos Verdes at Chester Washington golf course on Tuesday. The Mustangs currently have an overall record of 10-0 and a record of 2-0 in Bay League. According to Kim, the team is looking forward to playing a good game against Palos Verdes.
“Even though we lost by one, we are taking this as a motivation to play better for our upcoming tournaments,” Kim said. “Hopefully, we will do better next week.”
