Mira Costa’s girls volleyball competed in the Torrey Pines Challenge against La Costa Canyon, Carson, Notre Dame, San Clemente and Rancho Cucamonga in San Diego on Friday and Saturday, winning four games and losing one.
The Mustangs played against Notre Dame and San Clemente the first day, winning both games. On the second day, the team won against La Costa Canyon and Carson but lost against Rancho Cucamonga, 2-0.
According to sophomore setter Lily Snyder, despite the loss, senior defensive specialist and libero Emma Smith was consistent throughout the weekend and kept the ball up.
“We lost to Rancho Cucamonga because we struggled to find a rhythm all game,” Smith said. “It was a tough game, but we could have won.”
Costa will take on Redondo on Thursday at home at 7 p.m. The Mustangs have an overall record of 17-2 and a Bay League record of 3-0. According to Smith, varsity does not have to play against Morningside on Tuesday, and the time off will allow them to prepare for Thursday’s game.
“This time off will help us bring our best skills against Redondo on Thursday,” Smith said. “Because they’re our rival, it is imperative we bring our A-game.”
