Mira Costa’s cross country team participated in a three mile race at the Mount Sac Invitational at Mt. San Antonio College on Saturday with top performances by sophomore Xavier Court and junior Melia Chittenden. The boys placed eleventh out of 19 schools, and the girls placed second out of 19 schools.
Court placed thirty first with a time of 15:32, and Chittenden came in ninth overall with a time of 17:48. Chittenden has been the top performer for Costa in almost every race this season. According to senior Ty Garrett, Court has been improving a lot this season.
“Xavier has been running great all season,” Garrett said. “He is only a sophomore and was our best guy at Mount Sac.”
The Mustangs will next race in the Bay League Finals on Nov. 5. at the Palos Verdes course. The girls are currently 0-2 in Bay League and the boys are 2-0. According to Chittenden, both Mount Sac and PV have strenuous courses.
“The PV course is challenging because it has a lot of hills, but our team has done well on challenging courses,” Chittenden said. “I’m looking forward to what we can do in PV.”
