In the first match of the California Interscholastic Federation playoff tournament, Costa girls volleyball swept Woodridge, winning the game in three games.
The match took place on Tuesday at Mira Costa. Costa stayed ahead in the first game, winning 25-18, and dominated 25-8 in the second game. In the last game, Costa won 25-23, sealing their victory.
“The game was a great start to CIF,” junior outside hitter Amanda Montag said. “We came out strong and took care of business.”
The first game started off with a rally, and Costa ended up with the point. Despite small mistakes throughout the game, Costa man-aged to keep its lead that it established at the start of the set. A kill from junior middle blocker Alexia Inman ended the first game with a 25-18 victory.
Costa started off the second set with two kills from both Inman and junior outside hitter Alexa Underwood. Throughout the duration of the game, 11 serves, 4 of which were aces from senior defensive specialist Sara Feld helped Costa stay ahead. The op-posing team bounced back late in the game, but Costa kept their lead, 25-8, and won.
“The second game was much better be-cause we actually talked about what we needed to do,” Montag said.
The third set started off close as the two teams went back and forth, each unable to gain a foothold on the other. However, the Mustangs won, 25-23, sweeping Woodridge.
The Mustangs moved on to play Los Alamitos in an away game on Thursday but results were not available at the time of publication.
“I think today’s game was a great way for us to start our CIF run,” Inman said.
