The Del Amo Fashion Center debuted its new two level “Fashion Wing” on Oct. 9 that features a variety of new stores and restaurants.
Originally built in the 1980s, the renovation on the mall includes the addition of numerous popular brands and luxury retailers as well as modern design improvements and state-of the art technology. A nearly 140,000 square foot Nordstrom, Steve Madden, Zara, American Eagle, Lululemon, Sephora, Cotton:On, and Victoria’s Secret will be among some of the new additions to the mall.
“Before the renovation, the Del Amo Fashion Center was depressing and didn’t have a pleasant shopping vibe,” sophomore Katherine Rogerson said. “Safety was a bit of a concern and I didn’t really feel comfortable going by myself or with only one friend.”
According to Lindsay Hermance, Director of Marketing and Business Development for Del Amo Fashion Center, the commercial center will incorporate a common centralized area featuring massive skylights and a wide variety of restaurants including Pink’s Hot Dogs, Sumo Salad and Open Sesame.
“Nordstrom and our roster of new retailers in our new Fashion Wing continue to help drive traffic to our center and we’ve seen a lot of excited shoppers here at Del Amo Fashion Center in the past few weeks,” Hermance said.
“A lot of really cute stores were added and I can’t wait to check them out,” junior Claire Haber said. “I basically never went into the indoor part of the mall before they re-did it, mainly because it didn’t have many stores inside that I liked or would typically shop at.”
A new four-level, 2,000-car parking structure that connects to the new Nordstroms was also added. The structure is equipped with a parking guidance system and multiple charging stations for electronic vehicles.
“Del Amo Fashion Center is now the largest physical mall in the Western United States,” said local leasing and retail agent Jason Gordon. “It is a big mall and it just got better with the addition of Nordstroms and other popular retail tenants.”
The next phase of Del Amo’s remodeling involves installing new tile flooring, LED lighting, new entrances along with additional common areas between Macy’s Men, Home & Furnishings and Sears. According to Hermance, the remodeling will be completed in 2016.
“Before the renovation of the mall, there was nothing appealing enough to lure me in,” freshman Lucy Taylor said. “ I have already visited the new mall twice. The location is beyond convenient, and the stores, in my opinion, are amazing.”
