The Manhattan Beach Library is offering free practice tests on Nov. 7 to prepare students planning to take the SAT and ACT.
The test is being offered for all students looking to familiarize themselves with the new material and format of the SAT and ACT. A representative from Kaplan will be there to help guide students and supervise them.
“Kaplan offered to send a test proctor who administers the exam at the library,” Teacher and student librarian Laura Mendiola said. “This keeps the practice test as close to the real one as possible.”
The library will reveal the test scores on Nov. 16. Once scores are revealed, the library will be holding a session to provide students with information and strategies for taking the SAT and ACT.
“A few weeks after the exam, all those who participated in the practice exam are invited to come back to pick up their scores and attend a strategies session with a representative from Kaplan,” Mendiola said.
According to Mendiola, the Manhattan Beach Library has added the practice test to help improve the scores of South Bay students on both the SAT and ACT. She hopes this will help familiarize students with the new test and score as best they can.
“I’m glad I took the test since it gave me an idea of what to expect for the real test so now I feel confident and prepared going in,” Junior Emily Angiolini said.
Students can sign up at the information desk at the Manhattan Beach Library if they are interested in taking either practice test. Mendiola plans to continue this service to help students with the new SAT and ACT and although no future dates are finalized, she plans to hold practice tests accordingly with SAT and ACT test dates.
“Our hope is that offering these practice exams will help our students feel better prepared to take the actual exams and help them reach their academic goals,” Mendiola said.
