Mira Costa’s cross country team raced at the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) finals on Saturday at Mount. Sac. The boys placed third while the girls placed fourth, advancing them to state.
Eight of the teams that competed in the CIF Southern Section rank top ten in state, making for a highly challenging meet. The boys top performer was senior Ty Garrett at 15:54, coming in sixteenth overall. The girls top performer was junior Melia Chittenden at 18:02, coming in at sixth overall. According to Chittenden, Costa succeeded at meeting a major goal at the meet.
I’m so proud of the entire team,” junior Melia Chittenden said. “Qualifying for state has been our goal since November of last year, and we have been training hard with that goal in mind ever since.”
The next meet is the State Meet at Woodward Park in Fresno. This will take place Nov. 28. According to boys cross country coach Roberto Calderon, Costa was able to pull through rough weather conditions.
There were definitely challenging conditions, but our guys were able to persevere and do their best,” boys cross country coach Roberto Calderon said. “The weather was tough, but I’m proud of our guys for pushing themselves to the limit.”
