Boys basketball defeats Carson High School 69-45 in season opener

Mira Costa’s boys basketball team defeated Carson High School 69-45 at home on Monday in its season opener in the annual Pacific Shores Tournament. Costa clinched the victory due to strong performances from sophomore guard Bobby Barkley and senior forward Quenton Jackson.

Barkley posted 18 points while Jackson gathered 19. Jackson additionally led the team with four blocks and four steals. According to Barkley, the team gained confidence as the game progressed, which allowed them to extend their lead.

“The whole team has been working hard to prepare for this season, so when our shots started falling, we only gained confidence and played better,” Barkley said.

The Mustangs are 1-0 and they will play Culver City High School in their next game of the Pacific Shores Tournament on Wednesday. According to junior guard Ryan White, it be will be a good test of the team’s ability.

“Culver City will be solid,” White said. “If we can do the little things right and communicate well, we should have a strong chance to win.”
