SCROC proves more beneficial for students than traditional schooling

Many believe that the traditional schooling system is the best possible way for students to gain knowledge. However, the Southern California Regional Occupational Center or SCROC offers new methods of education that are even more beneficial than traditional schooling.

SCROC allows students to take classes of their choice. Students can choose to take classes after school so that they don’t interfere with regular courses or they can be taken during school. Counselors work out a proper schedule that fits the student.

According to the SCROC website, their motto is “Education with a Purpose” meaning that they want to provide education that can easily and directly be used in a paying job. Many students say they will never use the things they learn in school, but with SCROC the classes are aimed at training for a future job.

The fact is that the earlier students get started, the more time they will have to keep trying things before finding an enjoyable job. SCROC students can study engineering, art, finance and business, health science and even floral design. Those are just a few of the many options offered. These options are beneficial because there are a wide variety of things that traditional school doesn’t offer.

Traditional schools simply do not offer the classes and opportunities that SCROC offers. This can also be viewed as being better than traditional school because SCROC is actually a step in the direction of what the students want to do instead of classes they are forced to take.

Another huge benefit to this program is the fact that there is very little homework. Stress is a serious issue at the high school age, especially when students are trying to work to independence. According to senior Nathan Van Buskirk, he only got one homework assignment the whole time he went to SCROC, so it’s easy for him to balance normal school and SCROC.

Traditional schooling and homeschooling are just two methods of schooling, and students are expected to fit into one of these two education systems. The reality is that students differ widely from each other, and SCROC is an outlet for students who want to try something other than traditional schooling. Costa should encourage more students to enter this program because there is no harm in trying and it can only help students.

Some question if it is fair for students to leave school early for SCROC. According to senior Nolan Renshaw, students should be allowed to leave school early to go to SCROC because some of the classes prepare students for what they might major in college. There is no reason why students shouldn’t leave early if the purpose is to go to. SCROC.

Many would say it’s not worth the money to enroll in SCROC classes when one can just go to public school. This is unrealistic because the price is drastically less than many private schools, and the experience and knowledge that one can gain from these classes can set them up for life.

There really isn’t anything out there that is as unique as SCROC with the types of opportunities it gives students along with the fact that it sets students up for great paying jobs. It allows students to learn about things they are interested in, making getting an education fun.
