Mira Costa’s girls basketball team lost to Oak Ridge High School 54-44 Tuesday in the third round of the So Cal Holiday Prep Classic tournament. Despite its loss, the Mustangs received an outstanding performance from sophomore guard Haley Herdman who scored 16 points.
Costa was able to keep a comfortable lead the entire first half. However, Oak Ridge went on a offensive attack in the third quarter, putting up 15 points. The Mustangs were held to just ten points in the fourth quarter and were unable to regain their lead.
“We did really well in the first half; we had great hustle all around,” Herdman said. “In the second half though, we definitely fell behind because they outplayed us.”
The 6-5 Mustangs next game of the tournament will be against Garfield High School Wednesday. According to Herdman, Costa will need to work on staying focused during the game, regardless of who its opponent is.
“We need to continue to work on not giving up and staying in the game,” Herdman said.
