Mira Costa’s girls basketball team defeated Garfield High School Wednesday 63-35 in the fourth and final round of the So Cal Holiday Prep Classic held in San Diego. Senior guard Haley Maeda lead the team with approximately 12 points and numerous assists.
Costa had no trouble getting out to an early lead in the first quarter and holding that lead through the rest of the half. Scoring decreased in the second half, but the Mustangs were still able to control the game through to the end.
“We pushed the ball very well looking for the extra pass which created good open shots for everyone,” sophomore guard Haley Herdman said.
Costa will play a non league home game against El Segundo Tuesday. According to Herdman, the Mustangs are going to work on their press before their next game.
“We will keep working hard to improve our press and get more defensive stops,” Herdman said.
