Mira Costa’s track and field team competed against West Torrance on Wednesday at West Torrance High School, with the Mustangs taking first place in girls 100 meter, 200 meter, 400 meter, 800 meter, 1600 meter, 100 meter hurdle, 4X100 relay, shot put, discus, high jump, long jump and pole vault and first in boys 100 meter, 200 meter, 110 meter hurdle, 300 meter hurdle, shot put, discus, and triple jump.

The Mustangs crushed their performances in each category with stand out athletes seniors Brenton Westbrook, Fabien Franck Love, Brendan Hunt, Alexis Johnson, Kailyn Hooten, Alexa Faubert, Myan Elrington, juniors James Ryczanowsk, Jenelle King, Emily Jones, Maya Macgregor, Amanda McDonald, sophomores Jonah Tavai, Alicia Chute, Aaliyah Graves and freshman Bridgette Grau. According to Hunt, the team’s energy was high.

“We did well today,” Hunt said. “Even though it was just a practice meet with no final winner, this should help prepare us for future meets. Our energy was high and we supported each other as a team, both things are very important.”

Costa will next compete against North and Beverly Hills at North High School on Wednesday at 2:45 p.m. According to Hunt, this meet will be fun for the Mustangs.

“The beginning of our season is usually just meets that help us warm up for later meets,” Hunt said. “They are good practice and this next one should be useful and we will hopefully do well.”
