Mira Costa’s baseball team defeated Mayfair High School 6-0 on Tuesday in an away match. The Mustangs rallied on four runs in the first inning with remarkable pitching by freshman Merrick Baldo.
In the first inning, the team added four runs and two more in the sixth. Baldo pitched the entire game, allowing only three hits and striking out six batters. According to Baldo, the team did a good job overall hitting the ball while also making key defensive plays.
“I feel like our team played incredibly well and our defense was very consistent,” Baldo said. “Our hitting was there from the first pitch of the game and was very solid.”
The Mustangs now improve their record to 4-1 overall and will play their next game in the El Segundo Tournament on Thursday at El Segundo High School but currently do not know their next opponent. According to Baldo, the if the team plays like they have been, no team will stand a chance against them.
“Our momentum right now going into the next game is very strong and If we play like we did today, we should have no problem coming out on top,” Baldo said. “With the hitting, defense and pitching that we have, we are all very confident that we will do excellent.”
