Mira Costa’s boys volleyball team defeated Loyola High School 3-0 on Friday at Loyola Marymount University. The Mustangs swept the Cubs, who were ranked number five in CIF Southern Section in division one.
The Mustangs dominated all three sets 25-18, 25-20, and 25-22. Senior outside hitter Roy McFarland and senior opposite Jackson Wedbush led the way for the Mustangs, each amassing over 10 kills. According to McFarland, it was incredible to come out victorious in such a big game.
“It feels great to be able to win one of the biggest rivalry games in high school volleyball and it was great to represent Costa how we did,” McFarland said.
Mira Costa, now 7-1 overall, will next play at Newport Harbor High School on Tuesday. According to junior outside hitter Kevin Pinkerton, the team will look to continue its success and improve.
“We have been playing well lately and we just have to keep it up,” Pinkerton said. “I’m sure Newport Harbor will be a good opponent.”
