Mira Costa’s track team competed in the California Relays on Friday and Saturday at Cerritos College. The Mustangs competed in the large school division because this meet broke up teams based on size of the school.

Top performers on Friday included senior Fabien Franck Love who placed ninth in the 36” hurdles, as well as sophomore Jonah Tavai who placed third in shot put. On Saturday senior Brenton Westbrook placed fourth in the 400 meter and junior Shante Robinson placed first in the 100 meter hurdles. The girls also placed first in the 4×100 meter. According to senior Ethan Williams, the team did well at the relays despite difficult competition.

“Although I did not run this weekend, I came out along with others to support the team,” Williams said. “Our teammates placed well in their events even though they were against tough competition.”

The team, currently second in Bay League, will next compete against South Torrance at South High School on Thursday. According to senior Brendan Hunt, small meets against like this are good ways for the team to work out their kinks and for runners to achieve their individual goals.

“Small meets like this give us opportunities to work through individual problems,” Hunt said. “They set us up for major improvements at the larger meets.”
