In just three years of Mira Costa basketball, junior Allie Navarette has already scored a total of 1,216 points.
Navarette led the Mustangs to their third consecutive California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section Finals appearance, scoring 13 points in their loss on March 5 against Crescenta Valley High School. Costa also made it to the second round of the CIF State Championships, where Navarette was Costa’s leading scorer with 19 points against Cajon High School.
“This year was a learning experience for me because I’ve been working out with my shooting coach and training to be more in shape,” Navarette said. “In addition, we’ve been rebuilding the team, and I’ve managed to become one of the leaders.”
Navarette scored her 1,000th point of her high school career in January against Morningside High School, allowing her to join the 1,000-point club. She tacked on 216 more points by the end of Costa’s season.
“Scoring 1,000 points was great to get as a junior because I can hit 1,500 points as a senior,” Navarette said.
At the end of each season, players from each Bay League team are selected to play for First Team All Bay League and Second Team All Bay League. For her second consecutive year, Navarette was chosen to play for First Team All Bay League and First Team All CIF. This year, Navarette also earned Costa varsity’s Most Outstanding Player and Daily Breeze Player of the Year.
“Allie is a great contributor to our offensive game, and she is also key to our team on defense,” junior Halle Maeda said.
In the future, Navarette hopes to receive a scholarship to play Division I basketball in college. She also wants to play overseas.
“Basketball has always been something that I have been passionate about and I have made a lot of great memories from,” Navarette said. “I want to play as long as I can.”
