Mira Costa’s baseball team was defeated by the Peninsula High School Panthers 7-0 in an away Bay League game on Friday. Sophomore pitcher Jesse Storey kept the Mustangs’ stay close for the first five innings.
Storey pitched four innings with four strikeouts only allowing three runs. The Panthers began rallying runs in the fourth inning and the Mustangs couldn’t recover. According to Storey if the Mustangs were hoping to come away with a win, they needed to be more disciplined up at the plate.
“We needed to have more productive at-bats,” Storey said. “It wasn’t enough to pull away with a win.”
The Mustangs, now 16-4 overall and 2-2 in Bay League, will play its next game on Saturday against Malibu High School in the second round of the Chatsworth Tournament.
According to Storey, the team thinks they can easily shake off today’s loss and come back harder in games to come.
“We are definitely not phased by this loss,” Storey said. “We are getting back some guys who were out and are more than prepared for the next few Bay League games left.”
