A total of 43 Mira Costa United Nations freshmen attended the annual Huntington Beach High School Model United Nations Novice conference on Mar. 23.
At HBHS Novice, approximately 35 Costa students collectively won outstandings, commendations, and overall best delegates. Freshmen Rochelle Scott, Will Bond, Malia Yuhl, and Jack Robinson were among the many students to receive awards.
“I prepared a ton for this debate,” Scott said. “It payed off in the end because Huntington and other schools were very good as well, but since I was so prepared it helped me get an outstanding award.”
According to Costa MUN teacher, Bob Timberlake, this debate was a big challenge for these students since they have only been in MUN during second semester. However, the Costa delegates took the debate very seriously, as they were all very prepared and knew their facts.
“There is a lot of room for growth, but in general the delegates did very well,” Timberlake said. “I was happy with the outcome, and I am looking forward to having these students in my advanced class next year.”
