Mira Costa’s baseball team beat the Morningside High School Monarchs 19-0 in an away game on Tuesday. Pitching performance from freshman Merrick Baldo kept the Monarchs scoreless all game.
In Tuesday’s shutout victory, Baldo pitched four consecutive innings with five strikeouts and allowing only one hit. The rest of the game the Mustangs hit the ball consistently, scoring at least a run per inning. According to Baldo, the team played well both offensively and defensively.
“The team today just put together really great at bats,” Baldo said. “We also had a really great environment in the dugout.”
The Mustangs, now 21-5 overall and 3-2 in Bay League, will play Morningside High School again on Thursday at home. According to Baldo, as long as the team played the way they did today, they should have no problem replicating the scoreline.
“I do expect to see a very similar result in our next game,” Baldo said. “It’s a home field advantage and nonetheless, we just have a great team.”
