Mira Costa girls volleyball lost to Flintridge Sacred Heart, 3-2, at a home game last night with a top performance by senior right side hitter Britt Bommer.
Costa won the first set 25-23 and dominated in the second 25-14. The scores were close for the third set until Sacred Heart stepped up and defeated the Mustangs 25-23. Though Costa started off with the first point in the fourth set, the team was unable to keep their momentum and lost 23-25. Despite Costa’s determination, they lost the fifth set 13-15, finishing out their first game of the season with a loss.
“We started out the match strong and were aggressive with a lot of energy,” junior Kelli Barry said. “Towards the end, however, we started to let down and loose momentum.”
The Mustang’s, now 0-1 overall, will play their next game will be on Tuesday, September 13 at Edison High School in Huntington Beach. According to Barry, the team did not communicate well this game, however, they have high hopes for the remainder of their season.
“For future games I hope we come out more aggressive and stay focused throughout the entire game,” Barry said.
