Mira Costa’s College and Career Center has expanded its hours from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. to 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. for the 2016-17 school year in order for give students and parents more time to meet with CCC counselors.
Costa has been discussing the possibility of extending the CCC’s hours for several years and needed to find an additional counselor to work the extra hours. Since the Manhattan Beach Unified School District funded the position this year, Costa hired Elizabeth Rieken for the position, Costa Principal Dr. Ben Dale said.
“I’ve been waiting for the longer hours to open up at the CCC for about a year now, and I am really happy that it’s finally here,” senior Amelie Vergnolle said. “I am able to complete all my college applications with ease because I can now come after school if I am too busy to come during the day.”

“During Walk-in Wednesdays, students can come in and get help with their college applications in a quiet place, and if they have any questions while they are working on it, then the counselors are here to answer those questions,” Rieken said.
